Not looking to be PM: Rahul Gandhi

May 03, 2004 12:01 IST

Congress president Sonia Gandhi's son Rahul, who is contesting from Amethi, on Monday said he should not be seen as a future prime minister.

"If I win the election, I would like to be regarded as a member of the Amethi parliamentary constituency," he said in Kanpur.

Asked about a possible alliance with the Samajwadi Party, he said he was "quite young" in the party to comment on these matters. "Senior party leaders will take a decision in this regard."

He refused to comment on Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's decision to raise the issue of his mother's foreign origin. "Vajpayee is the prime minister of the country and we pay regards to him. It is a tradition in my family to pay respect to senior and elder people, so I would not comment on this."
