Woman, 108, votes in Delhi

May 10, 2004 11:33 IST

The Nirman Bhavan polling booth in New Delhi parliamentary constituency, where Congress president Sonia Gandhi exercised her franchise, saw a 108-year-old woman casting her vote.

Dalawati's relatives carried her on a chair soon after Gandhi left the place.

Asked if she was comfortable in handling the electronic voting machine, a frail but enthusiastic Dalawati said, "I made an effort to learn it and now that I have cast my vote I feel good."

She also mentioned the changes that have occurred since she voted for the first time many years back.
