Extensive re-poll in Bettiah, Siwan

May 12, 2004 15:14 IST

The Election Commission has ordered re-poll in 429 polling stations in Bettiah and 193 booths in Siwan Lok Sabha seats in Bihar on May 24.

The commission had earlier sent fact-finding teams to Bettiah and Siwan following complaints of poll irregularities.

Controversial Rashtriya Janata Dal MP Mohammed Shahabuddin is seeking re-election from Siwan and noted filmmaker Prakash Jha is contesting from Bettiah.

The commission has already countermanded elections in Chhapra -- where RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav is pitted against Union minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy -- and ordered a re-poll on May 31.
