Sunil Dutt lauds Sonia for Congress performance

May 13, 2004 18:25 IST

Veteran Congress leader Sunil Dutt, who romped home victorious from the Mumbai Northwest Constituency, attributed his party's good performance in the Lok Sabha polls to party president Sonia Gandhi.

"Everyone has put in their efforts to ensure my success," an elated Dutt, who trounced Shiv Sena firebrand leader Sanjay Nirupam, told a private television channel. He added that the Congress performance in the polls was due to Gandhi's leadership.

Dutt also said that the polls were conducted peacefully and he was specially satisfied with the manner in which the police had ensured adequate security arrangements on the polling days.

"I am a man who is in favour of peace and one who detests any violence and communal riot," he said. "I am happy that the polling was also conducted in a peaceful manner in my constituency."

Dutt also scoffed at the exit polls, which had predicted a big victory for the National Democratic Alliance.
