The Samajwadi Party-Rashtriya Lok Dal combine, having 39 members of Parliament, on Monday met President A P J Abdul Kalam and handed over to him a letter supporting a Congress-led government at the Centre.

"We have lessened the burden of [Congress president] Sonia Gandhi by submitting directly to the President the letter of support,"

SP general secretary Amar Singh and RLD president Ajit Singh said at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhawan.
