The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the Shibu Soren-led government in Jharkhand to prove its majority on the floor of the House on March 11.

Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibtey Razi, who had, in a controversial decision, invited Soren to form the government when the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance appeared to have the numbers in its favour, had fixed March 15 for the trial of strength.

The SC order came on a petition filed by former Jharkhand chief minister Arjun Munda challenging Razi's decision to invite Soren to form the government in the state.

The court also said no Anglo-Indian member could be nominated to the assembly till the floor test is over.

The nomination of an Anglo-Indian member to the House, whose name is recommended by the government, would have tilted the scales in Soren's favour.

The court asked the speaker to keep the proceedings in the House peaceful and report the outcome of the floor test faithfully to the court.
