A film about bar girls would have raised a hue and cry with the moral police a couple of years ago. No longer. If anything, Coyote Ugly has tickled the laughter buds of some people.
Violet (stunning Piper Parbo) arrives from New Jersey to make it big as a singer in New York. She is such a 'good girl' in a big bad world, that her naivete lends itself to some humour. Violet lands at the Coyote Ugly. A dancer at this bar is called a coyote. This is the cue for the dances -- with Gloria (Melanie Lynskey), Rachel (Bridget Moynahan) and Lou (Del Pentacost) -- that remind you of the 1980s hit, Fast Forward.
A love angle is woven into the bar tapestry with Kevin (Adam Garcia), and the usual problems crop up before love triumphs.
Apart from the sensuous dancing, nothing holds the film together. Not the dialogue, not the story, not the script. If you have nothing to do on a Saturday afternoon, catch this one. Else, give it a a miss.
