Bizarre to intolerable!Aparajita Saha Dude, Where's My Car? has a simple and straightforward story. Very plausible. One which could happen to anyone. It's about two regular college guys (Seann William Scott of Road Trip and American Pie and Ashton Kutcher of That 70s Show) whose combined IQ levels add up to 18. They each have regular girlfriends and lead regular lives. One regular morning, they wake up with absolutely no recollection about their wild goings-on the night before. Incidentally, they also misplace their regular-looking car in the course of their nocturnal episode (and you wanted to know why the film was called thus?). Their eventful journey in search of the car leads them to encounter the usual obstacles one inevitably bumps into while conducting searches. They chance upon a transsexual stripper, a pot-smoking dog, violent ostriches, a group of nerds dressed in bubble wrap and alien babes with impressive chest measurements. The movie has a regular ending, too. The two find their car, win back their girlfriends and of, course, save mankind from possible world destruction. Everyone lives happily ever after. Except maybe the hapless audience, which has lost over 80 precious minutes of their lives. On the upside, Dude, Where's My Car? has its share of funny gags. The downside is that the gags are repeated again and again. And again. It might be amusing at first, but the sixty-seventh time? What were screenwriter Philip Stark and director Danny Leiner thinking of? Seann William Scott and Ashton Kutcher should leave the dumb blonde act to those who do them best -- the blondes. Their eloquence is unmatched by words such as 'dude', 'shibby' and 'sweet' that are roughly used at a conservative estimate of about a hundred thousand times. Needless to say, this is a film that moves steadily from the bizarre to the absolutely intolerable.
