Plain Dull!

Sukanya Verma

Star kid debuts usually mark a new chapter in the Hindi cinema's world of music.

Esha Deol in KMDSP Be it Rishi Kapoor in Bobby, Sunny Deol in Betaab or Hrithik Roshan in Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai.

These films kick-started the careers of these stars and provided Bollywood with some of it's biggest musical hits.

Unfortunately for Hema Malini and Dharmendra's eldest daughter -- Esha Deol, the music of her debut film Koi Mere Dil Se Pooche falls in the strictly mediocre category.

Unlike Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai or Moksha, music director Rajesh Roshan fails to create any waves with his latest compositions. The album comprises nine tracks with lyrics by Suryabhanu Gupt, Ibrahim Ashq and Dev Kohli.

For starters, it's the title track, Jab tu muskurati hai by Udit Narayan and Pamela Jain, reminiscent of Pyar ki kashti mein with Roshan's trademark orchestration. Also, you have Narayan singing a few strains of Koi mere dil se pooche in an earlier version. No great shakes, this!

Esha Deol and Aftab Shivdasani in KMDSP Time to boogie with Sonu Nigam and Hema Sardesai as they croon unimaginatively to the beats of Aawara main badal. One question though, why does Hema Sardesai shriek so?

Mat ho udaas in the melodious voices of Shaan and Pamela Jain maintains a serene and mellow profile. This track does an excellent job of soothing frail nerves.

It is marriage time folks! Preeti Uttam gets in the shaadi mood with Kahti hai mangni ki angoothi. While Sonu Nigam gears up for the traditional bidaai song Tera bhala kare bhagwan, which sounds like a rehashed version of Oh chora ganga kinare wala (Don).

Exit wedding. Enter romance. Deewana tera hai wins hands down for being the best track in the entire album. Interesting play of guitar strings and pleasant vocals by Udit Narayan make this one worthy of a listen. Esha and Aftab in KMDSP

Lapak jhapak by pop star Kamaal Khan is a crowd pleaser. Whereas Hanste tim tim by new find Pamela Jain sings a sorrowful tune.

Inspiring in bits, mundane in parts, mediocre by and large, the music of Koi Mere Dil Se Pooche fails to impress.
