Salman Khan is no stranger to controversy. Clashes with the media, his affairs -- including his relationship with Aishwarya Rai -- and the infamous black buck hunting case have kept him in the headlines.

But this time the actor seems to be in serious trouble after a hit and run accident which left one person dead and two others seriously injured. He was said to be drunk at the time.

He was initially released on bail after paying a mere Rs 950 bail on September 28, the day of the accident. But the subsequent public outrage forced Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal to order an investigation into the case.

On Monday, October 7, he was remanded to three days in police custody and booked under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code. If convicted under this section, he could face 10 years in prison.

Earlier, the court ordered him to pay Rs 10 lakh to the kin of the dead victim, Rs 3 lakh each to those seriously injured, and 1.5 lakh to those with minor injuries.

Salman's friends claim the star is a victim of trial by the media. Do you agree?
