Producers cry foul over Zee movie plan
BS Corporate Bureau in Mumbai Zee Telefilms has got embroiled in a controversy over its much-hyped 'Thursday Premiere' movie slot announced last month. The company had said it had bagged the rights for 16 movies which would be telecast in less than three months from the date of their release and is finalising deals for another 10 movies shortly. However, two producers have sent out public notices claiming they have not entered into any agreement with Zee for the satellite rights of their movies. Chopra Yashraj Films in a statement has said, "We have not yet entered into any agreement with regard to the satellite rights of our films Mujhse Dosti Karoge and Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi." The statement went on to add, "It has been brought to our notice that these films are being announced for telecast on Zee TV and are being advertised by them with specific telecast dates. We would like to confirm that no agreement has been signed by us and Zee TV has advertised these films without our authorisation." Venus Records and Tapes in a public notice claimed, "With reference to the advertisement appearing in various newspapers and other media regarding telecast of our film Hathyar we hereby inform that we have neither assigned nor entered into an agreement for assignment of satellite broadcasting rights of the said film with any person, firm or company." Some of the other movies for which Zee claimed to have bagged the rights include recent releases such as The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Humraaz, Om Jai Jagdish, Tum Ko Na Bhool Payenge, Kitne Door Kitne Pas, Deewanapan and Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein. Zee Telefilms however in response to queries on the issue said, " As far as we are concerned there are no issues with any producer." Zee had unveiled a new programming format from the beginning of October with the entire Thursday prime time slotted for the recently released Bollywood production. The first of the movies, The legend of Bhagat Singh, was aired on October 10. ALSO READ:
