Petrol, diesel shortage may be felt
April 21, 2003 17:18 IST
The commercial capital may face shortage of petrol and diesel from Tuesday if agitating transporters stop ferrying petroleum products.
''In case tankers carrying petrol and diesel which are essential items are stopped, the city may face fuel shortage,'' Petrol Dealers Association President Ravi Shinde told UNI.
Shinde said that the 253 petrol pumps across the city maintain a 48 hours stock, but in case the petrol and diesel tankers are targeted by agitators it can impact availability of petroleum products in the city.
Meanwhile, the transporters' strike in Maharashtra entered the 22nd day on Monday even as prices of vegetables and other products spiralled inconveniencing the people in the city and the state.
The nationwide agitation by truckers entered the eighth day on Monday. Shinde said the petrol consumption in the city is around 1,000 kilolitres a day, while the diesel off take is around 800 kilolitres. The trucks do more than 500 rounds in the petrol pumps in the city to meet this demand.
As far as the transportation of petrol and diesel is concerned from the HPCL, BPCL, IOC and IBP, dealers employ private truckers.
However, the transportation of LPG and CNG is handled by the government-owned companies themselves. UNI
