PM to flag off Sebi's awareness campaign on Fri

January 16, 2003 18:28 IST

Sebi's nationwide campaign for investors will be launched on Friday by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee as part of efforts to instill confidence and prop up the sagging capital market.

Apart from the equities market, the year-long "securities market awareness campaign" would also educate the masses about the retail trade in government securities through the bourses, Securities and Exchange Board of India chairman G N Bajpai said in New Delhi on the eve of the campaign.

Vajpayee would deliver the inaugural address while the keynote address will be given by Finance Minister Jaswant Singh followed by a detailed presentation by Sebi.

Vajpayee would also unveil a cartoon created by eminent cartoonist R K Laxman for Sebi's education programme.

An educative website for the investors would also be launched at the programme, Sebi sources said.

The programme would dwell on empowerment of investors through an awareness campaign and role of capital market intermediaries and professionals in investors' education.

Workshops and seminars would be conducted at both state and city levels across the country.
