Global major Deloitte Consulting is shoring up its presence in the IT sector in India. The group plans to double manpower at its two offshore development centres in Hyderabad and Mumbai from 1,000 at present.
The Hyderabad centre is operated by Deloitte alone while the Mumbai centre is operated through Deloitte Consulting Offshore Technology Group, a joint venture with Mastek.
"India is significant to the Deloitte group and we believe we can grow rapidly here," Raj Joshi, partner Deloitte Consulting and CEO, DCOTG, said. Business process outsourcing accounts for only a small part of Deloitte's revenues in India.
Joshi pointed out that Deloitte could not be compared to other Indian corporates as most of them operate at the lower end of the market while global majors like Deloitte, Accenture and IBM operate at the higher end.
The firm is not worried about the meltdown in the IT sector as it is yet to attain critical mass unlike other domestic majors. Globally, about 70 per cent of Deloitte's revenues come from the IT sector. Deloitte Consulting is one of the world's leading management consulting firms, with offices in more than 33 countries.
