BJP may include foreign-born issue in manifesto
The BJP is considering including the foreign national issue in its election manifesto, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee said today. The prime minister, who visited the birth place of rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam in Bengal, said suggestions in this regard were coming from different quarters and the party high command was looking into these. Asked to comment on whether he, as prime minister, was of the view that any foreign-born citizen should be debarred from contesting the highest posts of the President, vice president and prime minister, Vajpayee said: ''I cannot have a separate opinion. I will go by the party line only.'' To a question whether he came here to pay homage to Kazi Nazrul Islam or to kick off the party's election campaign in West Bengal, he said: ''I came here as a small poet only.'' UNI
