No slackness on part of security forces: Swami

Minister of State for Home Affairs I D Swami on Thursday denied that there was any slackness on the part of the security agencies in protecting the Parliament.

Speaking to rediff.com Swami said the security agencies had taken adequate precautionary measures following the disclosures made by a terrorist arrested by the Mumbai police earlier this month.

The terrorist, suspected to be allied to the Al Qaeda network, had said that the organistion was planning to target the Parliament House, along with other targets in Australia and Britain.

"It is because of the arrangements that had been taken that the fidayeen attack on parliament was foiled by the security agencies," Swami said.

He said that fidayeen attacks cannot be prevented, contending that 'they (terrorists) are determined people and they (terrorists) can attack even the Pentagon like they did on September 11'.

Asked whether the fidayeen had used a stolen car, Swami said this was a matter of investigation, which is being conducted jointly by the intelligence agencies and the Delhi police.

Meanwhile, a senior police official told rediff.com that the investigation into the terrorist attack is likely to be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
