Pakistan accuses India of sparking tension

Pakistan on Tuesday accused India of sparking tension between the two countries by 'irresponsible and threatening statements' in the wake of the terrorist attack on Indian Parliament.

A Pakistan foreign ministry statement said Islamabad rejected Indian Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani's charge about the involvement of Inter-Services Intelligence in the attack and said India was 'desperate' to involve Pakistan in the attack.

"The Government of Pakistan rejects India's desperate effort to involve Pakistan in the December 13 attack as well as provocative and self-serving statements emanating from New Delhi," the statement said.

It said Pakistan had condemned the attack and asked India to come out with 'credible evidence'.

It added that the Pakistan government intended to take action against any person or entity in Pakistan found involved in the assault.

"India is as usual seeking to be the accuser, the prosecutor and the judge. This is contrary to all norms of international law, inter-state conduct and is unacceptable," it said.

The statement asked India to give up 'unreasonable rhetoric' and warned New Delhi should be in no doubt that any action by it across the Line of Control 'will receive a swift and strong response and would have grave repercussions for the region'.
