Indian troops destroy 21 Pakistani bunkers

In a strong retaliatory attack following the killing of its three BSF jawans, Indian troops on Sunday night destroyed nearly 21 Pakistani bunkers besides inflicting considerable damage in Poonch and Samba areas along the Line of Control, a top defence official said in Jammu.

The Indian troops carried out engagements in Poonch sector and destroyed Pakistani bunkers abetting, supporting and harbouring terrorists, the official said.

In Samba area also, the Indian troops launch offensive leading to destruction of more than two bunkers.

Earlier, Pakistani Rangers had killed three BSF jawans and injured three others of a patrolling party in an ambush in Samba sector.

Meanwhile, Pakistan said that a civilian was killed and at least 12 injured by heavy Indian shelling across the Line of Control.

Officials in Pakistan occupied Kashmir said the shelling began Sunday night and continued intermittently on Monday.

"A 28-year-old youth died after he was struck in the head by a mortar shell in Taroti village in Abbaspur sector," an agency report quoted a district administration official Chaudhry Liaqat Hussain as saying.

Meanwhile, three army jawans were among four persons injured in Pakistani mortar shelling and firing, which continued for the third day in Jammu-Poonch sector, official sources said.

Heavy Pakistani mortar shelling and small and medium arms firing was reported from most of the areas along the Line of Control including in Sabzian, Kerni, Mendhar, Poonch, Ghambir, Laam, Bhawani and Mandi areas of Jammu-Poonch sectors since Sunday night, the sources said.

Three jawans suffered injuries in firing and mortar shelling in Khurdara area of Poonch sector early on Monday morning, the sources said.

Indian troops also retaliated and firing between the two sides was still continuing in all these areas, the source added.

The sources said the situation was very tense but under control, adding some more villagers at sensitive border areas of Poonch and Rajouri areas have been evacuated.
