The Justice K Venkataswami Commission, which is looking into corruption in defence deals exposed in tehelka.com 's sensational sting operation, will begin its hearings on June 4 or 6.
''We will begin hearings from either June 4 or June 6 and mostly it will be open to public,'' Justice Venkataswami said on Wednesday.
The commission will be assisted by a special investigation team headed by Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Dr K K Paul.
Justice Venkataswami said that at the preliminary hearing certain clauses of the terms of reference of the commission would be clarified in consultation with the counsels for various sides.
Justice Venkataswami indicated that the commission would not be able to complete its probe within four months, as stipulated in the terms of reference.
''You can come to your own conclusion,'' he said referring to the task that lay ahead of him in terms of viewing hours of tapes and going through piles of documents.
''We are able to view 3-4 hours of tapes every day," he said.
The commission has received unedited tapes from tehelka.com running into over 90 hours.
