Six militants killed within hours of withdrawal of ceasefire

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Six militants were killed in a fierce gun battle with the Rashtriya Rifles at village Langate in northern Kashmir late on Wednesday night, just hours after the Union government withdrew its unilateral ceasefire.

A senior police officer told rediff.com that troops raided a hideout in village Langate and came under heavy fire from a group of Lashkar-e-Tayiba militants.

The Rashtriya Rifles jawans returned the fire and killed six militants on the spot. "We have not yet received full details about the incident," a senior police officer said.
