She made this allegation while replying to a debate in the assembly on the demands for grants for the police.
DMK legislature party deputy leader Duraimurugan demanded proof from the chief minister for what he termed as a baseless allegation.
Jayalalithaa said the former DMK government, headed by M Karunanidhi had leased 77 acres of prime land in arterial Anna Salai in March 2001 to a consortium, comprising the Cosmopolitan Club, Indian Golf Federation and government officials, in order to help N Srinivasan, the alleged benami of Union Industries Minister Murasoli Maran.
She pointed out that a few months before the assembly polls, the government issued an order to lease the land to the consortium for 30 years without even specifying the lease amount.
"What more evidence do you need that Srinivasan is a benami of Maran?" she asked.
Duraimurugan said the charge was highly condemnable and that DMK members would stage a walkout. Even as Duraimurugan and M K Stalin did so, other DMK MLAs insisted on the charge being withdrawn.
At this, Speaker K Kalimuthu said that they were disrupting proceedings of the House. He then asked the watch and ward staff to evict the members.
