Tamil Nadu Congress unit chief E V K S Elangovan on Thursday ruled out the possibility of the party aligning with the ruling AIADMK in the state for future elections.
Reacting to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's statement that the AIADMK was maintaining equidistance from both the BJP and the Congress at the national level, Elangovan pointed out that, in the first place, the AIADMK had got a fresh lease of life by aligning with the Congress in the last assembly polls in the state.
Since then the two have drifted away from each other with Elangovan saying that the Congress is now preparing to lead a third front in Tamil Nadu.
Among others, he appealed to Congress Democratic Forum founder and former Union finance minister P Chidambaram to return to the parent-fold.
Elangovan indicated that he would welcome Tamil cinema's superstar Rajnikanth's support to the front saying, "I will talk to the actor after he returns from the US."
