TN minister to quit over 'burial festival' controversy

N Sathiya Moorthy in Chennai

Tamil Nadu Housing and Urban Development Minister C Durairaj is all set to quit following the controversy over his participation in a controversial 'burial festival' in Perayur village in his native Madurai district.

In the bizarre event, which took place last week, children were buried alive for a minute to fulfil vows.

The National Human Rights Commission has sought information from the state government about the episode following widespread media coverage.
