V K Ramamurthy returns to Congress

Tara Shankar Sahay in New Delhi

Vazhapadi K Ramamurthy, former minister in the governments led by P V Narasimha Rao and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, has merged his Tamizhaga Rajiv Congress with the parent Congress.

Ramamurthy told reporters at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi that he was thankful to party chief Sonia Gandhi for agreeing to the merger and welcoming him back.

He claimed that his party had 500,000 members and they would all be happy to work for the Congress.

Though Gandhi had been unable to go to Tamil Nadu to formalise the merger, she would eventually visit the state, he added.

He also said he had no problem with Tamil Nadu Congress Committee chief E V K S Elangovan and was ready to work under his leadership.
