Unfazed by the imminent arrest under Prevention of Terrorism Act by the Tamil Nadu police, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Vaiko on Thursday justified his support for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam saying the problem of Sri Lankan Tamils cannot be solved without the Tigers' involvement.
"Can you refer to the resolution of Palestinian problem without the involvement of PLO? Can you refer to the Northern Ireland problem without the rebels? Similarly, the problem of Tamils in Sri Lanka could not be discussed without the reference to LTTE," he told PTI from a hotel room in Mumbai, hours before his flight to Chennai where he is expected to be arrested for his pro-LTTE utterances.
Vaiko said the LTTE is spearheading the Tamil cause in Sri Lanka against the 'genocidal attacks under successive governments there'.
He said he was only supporting LTTE in its struggle in Sri lanka and not instigating violence in Tamil Nadu.
Accusing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa of a 'fascist regime', he said she had 'lost all balance and was diverting the attention of people from the day-to-day problems by indulging in gimmicks by arresting him under POTA'.
He said he would face the 'challenge with democratic means' and would not 'require Centre's good offices' in the matter.
He said the party would make 'political campaign' on the issue and his partymen have been asked not to undertake dharnas or force bandhs to disturb life.
He also accused Jayalalithaa of not solving 'burning problems' faced by the people and charged her with not taking steps to resolve the Cauvery row.
