Upset and angry over classmates teasing him for scoring low marks, a 14-year-old boy near Udhagamandalam (popularly known as Ooty) on Wednesday mixed poison in the noon meal that is served to school children in Tamil Nadu.
According to the police, the eighth standard student of the Panchayat Union Middle School in Hullathy mixed pesticide in the curry to be served to his fellow school mates.
However, timely detection averted the threat to the lives of over 100 students.
Kunthi, a school employee, noticed a change in the colour of the curry and also detected a strong smell and alerted the higher-ups.
She also told them that a child had been sighted in the kitchen with a bottle.
On being questioned by the headmaster, the boy came clean about the entire episode.
In another incident, a third-year B Com student in a Tiruchi college was on Wednesday stabbed to death after he challenged four classmates who were ragging a first-year student who happened to be his relative.
