Seven armymen and a civilian were injured in shelling and firing resorted to by Pakistani troops in Nowshera and R S Pora sectors in Jammu division since Friday, officials said in Jammu on Saturday.
Seven army personnel at a forward post in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district sustained minor injuries in a mortar shell blast, a defence spokesman said.
In another incident, an 18-year-old girl was injured when a stray bullet from across the international border hit her in Abdaal area of R S Pora sector, a BSF spokesman said.
She was shifted to a hospital where her condition was stated to be critical, he said.
Pakistani troops from across the Line of Control had fired several mortar shells in the area forcing Indian troops to retaliate, the BSF spokesman said, adding any casualty on the enemy side could not be ascertained so far.
Exchange of fire from small arms along the IB and LoC had been reported at several places in Kathua, Jammu, Rajouri and Poonch districts since Friday night, official reports said.
However, there was no immediate report of any loss of life or damage on the Indian side.
