Rajnikanth seeking publicity: Panneerselvam

N Sathiya Moorthy in Chennai

Tamil Nadu Public Works Department Minister and leader of the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, O Panneerselvam, on Friday said film star Rajnikanth was trying to seek publicity by calling for linking of rivers and launching a people's movement.

Panneerselvam said Rajnikanth was ignorant of the history of the demands made by AIADMK founder late M G Ramachandran, when he was chief minister in 1984.

The minister also said that Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had made a similar appeal to the Centre in a speech in the Rajya Sabha in 1984, and more recently in a letter to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in September.

Panneerselvam said that Rajnikanth was only exposing his 'ignorance' through his proposals.
