Five ministers join Jayalalithaa's Cabinet

N Sathiya Moorthy in Chennai

Tamil Nadu Governor P S Ramamohan Rao on Wednesday administered the oath of office and secrecy to the five ministers inducted by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa into her 18-month-old team.

Simultaneously, she has dropped three others through a common notification issued earlier, thus taking the total to 30.

Jayalalithaa and her Cabinet colleagues were present at the Raj Bhavan ceremony. Among the new inductees, Anwar Raaza and C V Damodaran had once served the Jaya team.

Other new ministers comprise Pappa Sundaram, R Vadivel and R Vaidhialingam. All five ministers fell at Jayalalithaa's feet after being sworn in, and sought her blessings.

Through a Raj Bhavan communiqué through which the appointments were made, Jayalalithaa also dropped Cooperatives Minister R Dhanapal, Backward Classes Minister K Sudarsanam, and Labour Minister Va Thu Natarajan.

Though no official information is available, the dropped ministers had reportedly not performed well in the recently concluded monsoon session of the state assembly.

Incidentally, this is the ninth reshuffle in the 18-month AIADMK rule, which involved three chief ministerial swearing in ceremonies in 10 months.

As may be recalled, Jayalalithaa was sworn in twice. In between, PWD Minister O Pannerselvam was chief minister until the Madras high court cleared 'Amma' in the TANSI land deal case, in which the Supreme Court has reserved its verdict now.
