A local Chennai court has ordered the release of the TANSI properties, the focus of the corruption case involving Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and her confidante Sasikala Natarajan.
Acting on a petition from Sasikala Natarajan, Small Causes Court Judge S R Singaravelan, however, laid down certain 'conditions' in a 'speaking order'. The judge has not yet detailed these 'conditions'.
The case flowed from the attachment of the TANSI properties after the trial court found Jayalalithaa and Sasikala Natarjan, among others, guilty of violating the law in the purchase of the public sector TANSI properties, and in a criminal case.
With the criminal case now pending disposal before the Supreme Court, Sasikala had petitioned the bench, offering to return the properties to the public sector corporation without any payment.
Earlier, when Jayalalithaa's senior counsel K K Venugopal made a similar suggestion orally, the Supreme Court judges said the matter was irrelevant to the proceedings.
Subsequently, Sasikala filed the current petition before the Small Causes Court, seeking to release the properties in the light of the high court order.
