Sleuths from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-corruption on Friday conducted simultaneous raids at 12 premises, including four in Bangalore, belonging to former Tamil Nadu public works minister Duraimurugan of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and his relatives.
Sources said the raids were conducted at the residences and business establishments of Duraimurugan, his son, daughter-in-law and other relatives for allegedly amassing wealth disproportionate to known sources of income.
Duraimurugan is now the deputy leader of the opposition in the assembly.
The chief judicial magistrate, Vellore, in an order dated October 11, had directed the DVAC to register a case against Duraimurugan and his relatives following a complaint by a journalist who alleged that they had accumulated around Rs 150 crore when the DMK was in power from 1996 to 2001.
Nine other former ministers have been raided in the past year, but no charge sheet has been filed against them.
