Anti-graft cops trap IAS officer in TN

N Sathiya Moorthy in Chennai

Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption of the Tamil Nadu police trapped Social Welfare Department Commissioner K M Subramaniam in the Madurai circuit house on Friday night on a charge of collecting money from his subordinates without authorisation.

They recovered Rs 100,000 in unaccounted money from Subramaniam.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police K Srinivasan, the DVAC said it was awaiting instructions from higher-ups before taking further action against the Indian Administrative Service officer.

Two government witnesses, one of them a tehsildar, were present on the occasion. A government doctor was summoned to check Subramaniam's health after he complained of chest pain on Saturday morning.
