Rajni to launch people's movement

N Sathiya Moorthy in Chennai

Tamil superstar Rajnikanth on Thursday spoke about launching a 'people's movement'.

Without going into the details of his proposed movement, Rajnikanth, in an interview to The Hindu daily in Chennai, also focused on the Ganga-Cauvery link, saying, "This one could be taken up after the peninsular river-link."

Rajnikanth said that he has spoken to the chief ministers of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh regarding this proposed link, and would try and meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa as well.

He criticised politicians and said, "They have no vision even for five years." Asked if he would enter politics, he left it to the "will of god". "There is need for people like me outside politics, to motivate people and politicians alike."

Rajnikanth had recently undertaken a day-long fast to press for the release of Cauvery waters.

He had then promised Rs 1 crore if and when the Ganga-Cauvery link scheme was taken up. In the interview, he reiterated his plan to meet President Abdul Kalam, Prime Minister Vajpayee and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, in this regard.
