The Australian premier, keen to know his team's progress in the match Down Under, asked for an update from Vajpayee during a one-to-one meeting between the two leaders.

Vajpayee obliged by telling him Australia's score at stumps -- 323 for nine. The Australian prime minister was stumped, as the Aussies had been dominating till the first day's play with a score of 262 for two.

Briefing reporters about the meeting, External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha said it began on a cordial note and the leaders discussed a lot on cricket.
