Sena to contest 50 seats in Himachal

January 11, 2003 02:58 IST

The Shiv Sena on Friday said it will contest 50 seats in the forthcoming Himachal Pradesh assembly polls.

This was decided in a meeting of the party in Simla under the chairmanship of Surinder Singh Rajpur, state youth wing chief.

The Sena had contested ten seats in the last election, but had drawn a blank on all.

Meanwhile, the Nationalist Congress Party said it will contest on its own.

State president Lieutenant General (retd) R S Dayal said no political party has approached the NCP for any tie-ups so far and the party too has not taken any initiative in this regard.

The process of selection of candidates has already been started and applications are pouring in, Dayal said. He was addressing his first press conference after the merger of the Ekta Manch with the NCP.
