In the continuing crackdown on pan-Tamil militants, possibly involved in the killing of Karnataka ex-minister H Nagappa, the anti-terrorism branch of the Tamil Nadu police nabbed two more persons on Thursday night.

They were picked up in Jayamkondam in Perambalur district, known for its backwardness and pan-Tamil militancy.

Elsewhere, the police arrested Arul and Mani, two members of the Tamils' Liberation Force, led by Suba Ilavarasan, identified with brigand Veerappan in recent weeks. They were arrested at Ulundurpet in northern Villupuram district.

Almost simultaneously, the police also nabbed 10 persons, including a TLF leader Farooq Khan, at Thiruppathiripuliyur in Cuddalore district. This group had tried to extort money at gun-point, the police said.

With this, the number of arrests of suspected pan-Tamil militants in the last few days has gone up to 14.

From among them, at least three are believed to have been actively involved in running errands and delivering guns to Veerappan, and also in the abduction of slain former Karnataka minister H Nagappa.
