Madhumita's sister retracts allegation
May 16, 2003 16:12 IST
Nidhi Shukla on Friday said Uttar Pradesh minister Amarmani Tripathi did not have any role in the murder of her sister Madhumita.
Two assailants had shot dead the poetess at her River Bank Colony residence in Lucknow on May 8.
Nidhi had earlier alleged that her sister was involved in a relationship with Tripathi. "I have been misquoted by a section of media which said I blamed Amarmani Tripathi and his wife, Madhurmani, for the murder of my sister," Nidhi said in Lakhimpur.
She said Madhumita had no relationship with the minister and might have met him in connection with kavi sammelans (poets' gatherings) she used to attend regularly.
Nidhi said her family has not made any demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the killing. She feared the police may destroy or plant evidence at their Lucknow residence.
Sounding sceptical about the police protection provided, she said the family was not comfortable with the two constables posted at their house.
