The parents of Velupillai Prabhakaran, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam chief, have left Tiruchirapalli for native Sri Lanka.

Accompanied by their Canada-based daughter, Vinodhini, and her husband, Rajendran, they left earlier this week after obtaining necessary clearances from the Centre, Tamil Nadu government and intelligence agencies.

Velupillai, 70, and wife Parvathi, 65, were among the early batch of Sri Lankan Tamils to come over to India.

They settled in Tiruchi and were supported by their daughter. The Velupillais initially settled down in a rented house, often closely monitored by the Indian intelligence agencies. Later they moved into their own house.

After he suffered a paralytic stroke last year, Velupillai was shifted to a siddha hospital in nearby Musiri. His wife also moved in with him to take care. With his condition showing improvement, Vinodhini and Rajendran who visited them, decided to take them to Sri Lanka.
