Indo-Pak truce comes into effect

November 26, 2003 00:54 IST

In keeping with the ceasefire agreement, guns along the Line of Control, International Border and in Siachen Glacier fell silent at midnight on Tuesday.

This is the first formal truce between the armies of India and Pakistan since the outbreak of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.

The directors general of military operations of India and Pakistan -- Lieutenant General B S Takhar and Major General Mohammed Yousuf -- spoke over hotline on Tuesday and wrapped up the truce deal.

The announcement was made simultaneously in New Delhi and Islamabad.
