Court verdict in 40 days! Now that's a record

December 16, 2004 22:20 IST

In what is considered a national record, a fast track court in Chennai delivered its verdict in 44 days.

The court sentenced four persons on Thursday (December 16) for murder in a case that was registered only on November 2.

The judge, K Ashokan, sentenced Gajendran, Yoganandan, Suresh and Selvam to 7 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000 each for the murder of one Balaji in a drunken quarrel.

The case was registered by the police on November 2 and the evidence was recorded between December 13 and 15.

Claiming it to be a national record, public prosecutor Jyothimani told news persons that a few months ago a case in Scotland had been decided in 60 days.
