Junior seer questioned in Sankararaman murder case

December 26, 2004 19:34 IST

The special police team investigating the Sankararaman murder case questioned the junior Shankaracharya of the Kanchi Mutt, Vijayendra Saraswathi, on Sunday afternoon.

Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati is the main accused in the case.

Mutt advocate Thyagarajan told newspersons that the junior seer was questioned by Additional Superintendent of Police Sakthivel.

He was permitted to leave after being questioned for nearly 75 minutes, as other senior police officials of the investigating team were busy with the rescue and relief works in the aftermath of the tremors and huge waves that devastated the state.

Meanwhile, the junior seer's brother, Raghu, was whisked away by the police from his residence in Chennai in the morning.
