CBI denies hand in suicides

Mukendra Paswan and Sheonath Sah allegedly committed suicide just hours after they were interrogated by a CBI team.

"We have engaged our best investigators in the case," CBI Director Umashanker Mishra told reporters in Gaya. "We will not demoralise our officers who have done a good job," he added.

Mishra said Paswan and Sah were not suspects in the case. He, however, admitted that their death had hampered the probe.

Mishra said he would depute an officer of joint director rank to monitor the investigations.

Referring to an FIR lodged by the police against the CBI team on a complaint filed by the father of one of the deceased, Mishra said it will in no way affect the CBI in carrying forward the investigation.
