Rocca meets Indian officials

February 13, 2004 21:05 IST

US Assistant Secretary of State Christina Rocca on Friday met Foreign Secretary Shashank, Deputy to National Security Adviser Satish Chandra and other senior Indian officials in New Delhi.

"The visit was planned for sometime. This has nothing to do with the composite dialogue scheduled between India and Pakistan beginning February 16," an American embassy spokesman said.

She also met American Ambassador to Pakistan Nancy Powell, who was in New Delhi on a stopover to her vacation. US Ambassador-designate to India Robert Mulford was present during the consultations.

An external affairs ministry spokesman said that "as part of regular exchanges on issues of bilateral interest", Rocca met joint secretaries in the MEA dealing with the US and South Asia.
