Mayawati meets Sonia over dinner

February 16, 2004 11:17 IST

Keeping alive the possibility of a tie-up in the coming Lok Sabha polls, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati had an over two-hour-long dinner meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Sunday.

The two are believed to have discussed strategies to be adopted in Uttar Pradesh and at the national level.

"The Congress president had invited Mayawatiji for dinner. The BSP chief, who had hosted a dinner for Gandhi recently, reciprocated and came for the same," a senior Congress leader said on Monday.

Talks are on between top leaders of the two parties for a tie-up, he said.

The BSP chief, who has been speaking in different languages on the possibility of an alliance with the Congress, entered Gandhi's 10 Janpath residence from the rear gate.
