Rising mercury and bright sunshine ebbed cold wave conditions in north India even as 15 more people perished in the chill in Uttar Pradesh pushing the countrywide death toll this winter to 502.

Chilly winds blew across Allahabad in UP even as the mercury shot up to 5.4 degrees Celsius in the night, up by 3.4 degrees.  

Warm sunshine greeted most parts of the northern region providing relief to people reeling under over-a-month-long cold wave.

Chandigarh had a high of 21.2 degrees Celsius and a low of 7.6 degrees Celsius. Amritsar (20.8 C), Ludhiana (22.1 C) and Patiala (21.9 C) in Punjab experienced a sunny day.

In Haryana, the mercury shot up to 22.3 and 21.1 degrees Celsius in Hisar and Ambala, respectively. Rohtak had a pleasant day on Sunday with the mercury zooming to 23.8 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature in Jammu was up by two degrees to settle at 10.3. Day temperature in the Himachal Pradesh capital Shimla rose to 14.6 degrees and the night to 7.1 degrees Celsius, up by five degrees.
