The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to Delhi University lecturer S A R Geelani and Afsan Guru, who had been acquitted of all charges in the Parliament attack case by the Delhi high court, on an appeal filed by the Delhi Police.

The court also issued notice to Delhi police on an appeal filed by Shaukat Hussain Guru challenging the high court judgment upholding the death penalty awarded to him in the case.

A bench comprising Justice S N Variava and Justice H K Sema directed Geelani and Afsan Guru not to leave the country without the permission of the court.

The court also suspended the execution of Mohammad Afzal and Shaukat Hussain Guru, against whom the high court had upheld the death penalty.

The bench also summoned the records of the high court and the trial court pertaining to the Parliament attack case and posted the hearing to February 20.
