Funds pour in for relief work at Kumbakonam

Funds to provide compensation to the relatives of 90 school children who perished in the fire at Kumbakonam and to take up conversion of thatched roof class rooms to concrete ones have started pouring in from various organisations in Tamil Nadu, with the Tamil film industry alone collecting over Rs 50 lakh.

All India Federation of Lottery Trade and Allied Industries president Usman Fiaz told reporters in Chennai that the federation had already donated Rs 200,000 to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to be utilised in Kumbakonam.

He said the federation had also collected Rs 25 lakh, which could be used for building concrete roofs to replace thatched ones in schools in the state.
