The Supreme Court has directed that a team of doctors from All India Institute of Medical Sciences should examine ailing Bahujan Samajwadi Party leader Kanshi Ram to determine his health and mental condition.
A division bench, comprising Justice Santosh Hegde and Justice S B Sinha, passed the orders on a petition filed by Kanshi Ram's mother Bishan Kaur. She has alleged that BSP chief Mayawati was not ensuring proper treatment for her son.
The team will visit Mayawati's residence in New Delhi, where Kanshi Ram is staying at the moment, to examine him.
The team should file a report before the Supreme Court in ten days, stating if Kanshi Ram should be admitted in hospital. It should also recommend the hospital that could give Kanshi Ram the best treatment, the bench added.
