Jammu and Kashmir celebrates Janamashtami with gusto

Janamashtami, the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, is being celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour throughout Jammu and Kashmir [Images] on Saturday.

Devotees have been visiting the famous Raghunath temple and various other temples since Friday to offer prayers, an official report said.

In Jammu, also known as city of temples, several temples have been decorated beautifully and illuminated with colourful lights, reports said.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor S K Sinha has extended greetings and good wishes to people in the state on the occassion. The governor in his message said that the life and teachings of Lord Krishna have left a lasting impact on various facets of life.

The governor said he hoped the festival would be celebrated with traditional fervour, enthusiasm and in true spirit of the composite culture of the state.
