A sessions Court on Thursday granted anticipatory bail to Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswati in an assault case.

A temple priest, Thirukottiyur Madhavan [Images], in Chennai was allegedly assaulted on August three last year.

Principal Sessions Judge P Murugesan, giving the order, cited the observations made by the Madras high court while granting pre-arrest bail to TVS [Get Quote] executives in the case. The executives are said to be devotees of the seer.

The high court had expressed the view that 'this case may be a foisted one, or, in other words, no prima facie case has been made out against the petitioner' for the court to refuse anticipatory bail.

The sessions court directed the Shankaracharya to furnish a personal bond for Rs 25,000 with two sureties for like amounts.

The judge also directed the seer to report to the investigating officer every Tuesday between 1000 IST and 1200 IST and also as and when required by the officer.
